Travel Time is an advanced online feature provided by Data Signs on the DS-Live platform.
The relevant traffic data is downloaded from Google Maps every 20 minutes and is processed to obtain current road conditions.
A Google Maps API key is required to enable the Travel Time feature on each VMS board.
Please click here and follow the steps to obtain a Google Maps API key.
This API key has to be setup on each sign used in the Travel Time process.
Log into DS-Live and click on the blue "More Info" button for each sign (refer image 1)
In "More Info", paste the API key in the Travel Time section and click on the Save button. (refer image 2)
After the signs have been assigned a Google API key; open the DS-Live User Guide and follow the steps on page 23 to setup your Travel Time.
Data Signs facilitates the Travel Time feature free of costs as part of the sign's DS-Live subscription.
Billing for the data used is payable directly to Google and is calculated based on the no. of VMS board sharing the API key and also the no. of travel segments in each setup.
Pricing details are available on the Google website under the "Distance Matrix Advanced" section
Assuming 1 VMS board with 1 travel segment would cost approx. $50/month.
